What Is the Hollywood Spectra Laser?

The Hollywood Spectra is an FDA-cleared laser made by Lutronic, now part of Cynosure. It uses two wavelengths, so it can remove both dark and light tattoo inks. It also has settings for pigment, mild to moderate inflammatory acne, and wrinkles.

How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work on the Hollywood Spectra?

Laser tattoo removal uses quick pulses of light to break ink into tiny particles. Your body then clears those particles over time, which is why ink fades gradually rather than all at once.

The Hollywood Spectra is FDA-cleared for both kinds of tattoo ink:

  • Dark inks: black, blue, and brown
  • Light inks: red, tan, purple, orange, sky blue, and green

Even with two wavelengths, some colors clear more easily than others:

  • Dark blue and black are the easiest to remove.
  • Green, red, and yellow are the hardest.
  • Flesh-colored ink, white ink, and permanent makeup can darken during treatment.
  • Ink that has already oxidized can’t be treated with a laser.

Complete removal can take many treatments, and some tattoos may not clear completely. It’s better to know that going in.

What to Expect Before, During, and After Treatment

Before
Your first visit is a consultation at our Franklin office. Book online, or call and Hannah at the front desk will find you a time. We look at your tattoo or skin together and talk through what’s realistic.

During
Most people feel laser tattoo removal. Numbing cream can be applied beforehand if needed, so ask us about numbing when you book.

After and Between Sessions
Your skin needs a few weeks to heal between tattoo removal sessions. Treated skin can end up lighter than the skin around it, and other possible side effects include redness, soreness, pinpoint bleeding, infection, or scarring. Call us at (615) 721-5121 with any questions between visits.

Laser tattoo removal can fade a tattoo over a series of treatments, but it doesn't work the same on every tattoo. Dark inks respond best, some colors are hard to clear, and complete removal isn't always possible. At your consultation, you'll hear what's realistic for yours.

It always takes more than one, with a few weeks between sessions so your skin can heal. How many you need depends mostly on your ink colors. Complete removal can take many treatments, so we look at your tattoo with you before giving you a plan.
